What Our Customers Say...
Description
First Edition, Illustrated, Publishers' Original Binding, Scarce
The first edition of this work. A scarce work. An interesting collection of plates by the noted French painter and etcher Claude Lorrain. Lorrain was active during the Baroque era, and the Dutch Golden Age of painting, though he set himself apart from his contemporaries by concentrating on landscape painting. Illustrated with twelve plates, all by Claude Lorraine. Seven of the plates are from this original work, published by W. B. Cooke in 1825. The other five plates were published by Boydell & Co in 1817. The caption on the additional plates reads 'From the Original Drawing in the Collection of the Duke of Devonshire'. The work is grangerised, with seven of the original plates present. Collated, incomplete, lacking seventeen of the original plates.
