The first edition of this work. Four editions were published in 1825, but this is the first edition.
A first-hand account of the 1825 loss of the Kent East Indiaman ship, which was lost to fire in the Bay of Biscay. Eight-one people died during the fire.
This was on the most famous wrecks of the East India route.
Published very soon after the shipwreck.
The captain during the last voyage was Henry Cobb.
Written by Sir Duncan MacGregor.
Prior owner's ink inscription to the recto to the front free endpaper, 'George Pelly, a token of love from his affectionate niece, Eugenia Emma Pelly, June 22 1825'.
Condition
In the original paper covered boards, rebacked with a new spine. Externally, generally smart. Light discolouration and marks to the boards. Minor bumping to the extremities. Smudged mark to the verso to the rear endpaper. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are lightly age-toned and generally clean with a few odd spots.
