What Our Customers Say...

Description

Early Edition, Publishers' Original Binding, Very Scarce

The complete and very scarce five volume second edition of English writer and physician John Mason Good's 'The Study of Medicine', in the publisher's original quarter cloth binding and paper covered boards.

Expanded from the first edition, the writer explains that this edition contains 'further notice of foreign professional writers of the present day'. Good explains that his work is offered 'not as a record of authorities, or a compilation of professional opinions, but an original and systematic survey of the Healing Art as a science'.

Across these five volumes, five classes of illness are studied in great detail, Class I: Diseases of the Digestive Function, Class II: Diseases of the Respiratory Function, Class III: Diseases of the Sanguineous Function, Class IV: Diseases of the Nervous Function, and Class V: Diseases of the Sexual Function.

To the rear of volume V is a lengthy general index.

With the front free endpaper of Edwin Sanderson, 1825, to the front free endpaper.

An extensively researched and detailed study of early nineteenth century medical knowledge, containing fascinating insights into the prevailing norms and understanding of medical treatments and ailments at the time.
