The first edition of this biography of literary icon Lord Byron, examining his life between the years 1808 and 1814.
The work of R. C. Dallas, who was acquainted with Byron through his sister's marriage to Byron's uncle, George Anson Byron.
Including excerpts from personal letters of Byron, which where in Dallas's possession. Byron's executors obtained an injunction against publication, and Dallas died shortly thereafter. This work, edited by Dallas's son, was published almost immediately, and contains an account of the dispute over the publication of the Byron letters.
Condition
Rebacked, in a half calf binding, with original boards restored and back strip laid down. Significant rubbing to boards, joints and back strip. Hinges strained but firmly held. Lacking front free endpaper. Internally, firmly bound. Pages age toned, with instances of significant spotting throughout.
