A fascinating study by André Vieusseux complete in two volumes. Originally published in 1821 in one volume in a very limited edition confined to subscribers. In the preface the author notes that of that edition 'a fire, which occurred soon after in the printer's warehouse, destroyed the remaining copies.' This work remains scarce in all editions. This edition first thus in two.

Condition

Rebound in uniform calf bindings with four raised bands, gilt tooling to spine and boards, marbled edges and endpapers. Externally sound with shelf wear, rubbed joints and extremities of spine and boards. Internally, firmly bound. Light spotting scattered to the occasional leaf.
