What Our Customers Say...

Description

First Edition, Rebound

A copious and comprehensive bibliographic work and index to British and foreign literature, one of the most remarkable examples of bibliographic material in the field of literature.

This work continues to be an invaluable resource for literary scholars worldwide, and is estimated to reference over 200,000 books, pamphlets, and periodicals.

The first edition of this work.

Complete in four volumes.

The first two volumes contain alphabetical listings of over 40,000 authors along with brief biographies and bibliographic information. The latter two volumes contain encyclopaedic indexes to volumes one and two.

Compiled and written by Dr Robert Watt (1774-1819), a Scottish physician and bibliographer.

This set was previously housed at the Deptford Public Library, and has been rebound in library quarter cloth with library notations to the spines. Also containing library stickers to the pastedowns and library stamps to the title pages and versos to the title pages.

Condition

Rebound in quarter cloth with paper covered boards by Deptford Public Library. Externally, some shelf wear and scuffing to the boards, and bumping to the heads and tails of the spines and extremities. Library notations in ink to the spines. Containing library stickers to the pastedowns and library stamps to the title pages and versos to the title pages, along with a library stamp to the odd page, not affecting readability. Internally, front hinge to Volume I has failed, hinges to Volumes II and III have been reinforced and Volume IV has refreshed endpapers and pastedowns. Remaining binding is firm. Some handling marks to the pages, but otherwise pages are bright and clean, especially considering the age of the work.
