Edited by William Roscoe, who also provides a biography, commentary and "an estimate of his poetical character and writings". The volumes contains all of Pope's major poetical works, as well as his essays, prose, correspondence and satires, offering an extensive collection of both the author's work and the critical reaction it recieved. The first two volume contain frontispiece portraits of the author, and each volume contains the bookplate and signature of Samuel Hoare, a politician and bibliophile. Condition
In morocco binding with gilt detailing. Externally quite smart, there is wear to the joints and backstrips, with some minor cracking to joints and strain to hinges. Internally, the pages are firmly bound, aside from some detached but present introductory pages to the second volume, and are bright and clean aside from the odd instances of spotting, particularly to the endpages.
