His Tableau des Revolutions du Systeme Politique de L'Europe, first published in 1803 gained him considerable renown and entry into the Academy of Berlin. It was one of the earliest studies to recognise psychological factors in historical movements, and it brought him to the notice of the court, where he was appointed tutor to the royal princes. These volumes are in French.
