This work examines man's rights regarding property and liberty.
Basil Montagu (1770-1851) was a British philanthropist, writer and barrister. Influenced by the works of Frances Bacon, Montagu was a friend to Samuel Taylor Coleridge, William Wordsworth and William Godwin. He was also one of the founding members of the RSPCA, first named the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals.
His other works include 'Knowledge, Error, Prejudice and Reform', 'The Law of Parliamentary Elections' and 'Three Lectures on the Works of Lord Bacon'.
First published in 1819, this is a third edition of this work.
Condition
Disbound. Externally, a little worn, with some marks to the top of the covers. Internally, binding is loose in places but strong from page seven. The lower four bindings have failed for the first six pages, with these pages attached only by the top binding. Pages are bright and clean.
