What Our Customers Say...

Description

First Edition, Publishers' Original Binding, With Slipcase

First Edition.

Original paper wraps, loosely contained in modern cardboard wraps and a contemporary quarter-leather slipcase.

This is a 'dramatic sketch' by Sir Walter Scott, which retells the reconciliation between two Scottish chiefs before a final battle against Edward III. Characters include the Regent of Scotland, various Scottish Chiefs and Nobles, a Knight Templar, and the Abbot of Walthamstow.

This work was originally written 'with the purpose of contributing to a miscellany projected by a much esteemed friend', before it became too long for the publication. Though classified as a drama, 'Halidon Hill' is intended to 'illustrate military antiquities, and the manners of chivalry', and not 'designed or calculated' for the stage.

Sixteen pages of publisher's adverts to the front of text.

Collated, complete.
