This is a satire, parodying the writings of the Times publisher John Stoddard using the name Mr. Slop.
William Hone (1780-1842) was an English satirist and author. In 1817, he took the government to court over censorship in a battle of press freedom.
Illustrated by George Cruikshank (1792-1878), a British caricaturist and illustrator, most renowned for his work for Charles Dickens and on 'The Life and Opinions of Tristram Shandy, Gentleman'.
Containing a folding plate.
Loosely inserted is the original newspaper clipping containing this work.
A very scarce and important satire.
Condition
Unbound. Generally smart, with a little wear to the edges. Firmly bound; pages are a little spotted in places. Newspaper clipping has a large tear.
