Description

Colour Plates, First Edition, Illustrated, Pleasing Copy, Very Scarce

The first edition of this work. A very scarce book. usually incomplete if found at all.

From the library of Gail E. Haley and Arnold Arnold. Haley is an American writer and illustrator for children's books, who won the Caldecott Medal in 1971 for 'A Story a Story' which she retold from an African folktale.

This volume recounts Giovanni Battista Belzoni's travels to India and Nubia. The narrative is given an extra layer of depth as the story is told from a mother to her children.

Belzoni was a renowned Italian explorer and archaeologist of Egyptian antiquaries, known for his removal to England of the seven-tonne bust of Ramesses II, the clearing of sand from the entrance of the great temple at Abu Simbel, and other deeds.

Written by the author of 'The India Cabinet', being Lucy Sarah Atkins Wilson, who specialised in children's scientific fiction.
