An analytical guide to chess, an extensive educational work written by a master of the game.

This work was the standard chess manual for at least a century.

Illustrated with a frontispiece, and in-text diagrams.

Written by Francois-Andre Danican Philidor, a French chess player who is considered to be the best of his age. 

Translated into English with notes by William Stopford Kenny.

Condition

In the original quarter cloth binding with paper to the boards. Externally, generally smart, with light rubbing and some marks to the boards and spine. Spine is a touch faded. Light bumping to the head and tail of the spine and to the extremities. Spine label is a little discoloured with a few chips. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are lightly age-toned and generally clean with some odd spots.
