What Our Customers Say...

Description

Leather Binding, Original Binding, Scarce

The scarce first edition of this work from British chemist, mineralogist and zoologist John George Children. Children was also the founding president of the Royal Entomological Society.

Much of the work here is adapted and translated from the French of Louis Jacques Thénard by Children, who in his preface does note that 'the reader who compares the present volume with the original, will find it considerably altered'. With two illustrated plates depicting scientific apparatus, and four folding tables.

With chapters on such subjects as 'the means of detecting very minute portions of arsenic', 'the atomic theory' and 'analysis of the hot springs at bath'.

Condition

In the original half calf binding. Extensively rubbed to extremities. Starting to front and rear joint, with rear board holding firm and front board held by cords only. Internally, firmly bound. Pages generally clean and bright, with the odd spot.
