An extremely scarce published account of the events of the 1819 Westminster election, which ran from Saturday, February the 12th to Wednesday, March the 3rd, including near daily polls, speeches and letters.
This account was constructed by the committee to elect Sir John Cam Hobhouse as MP for the City of Westminster. He was the Radical candidate at this election, and despite having gained some popularity through writing in favour of reform, failed to secure the seat.
At the end of this year he was arrested for publishing a pamphlet concerning electoral reform, and was imprisoned in Newgate for three months.
With speeches from Sir Francis Burdett, MP, a notorious proponent of universal male suffrage. His commitment to reform led to a brief confinement to the Tower of London.
