A first edition of this scarce work on physiognomy by Thomas Cooke. With eight plates, collated and complete. Drawing on the work of Johann Kaspar Lavater, who revived the pseudoscience this scarce volume shares Thomas Cooke's understanding of the Science of physiognomy. Physiognomy is the practice of assessing a person's character or personality from their outer appearance, and this volume also contains some observations on the temperaments, and a memoir of the Thomas Cooke. Prior owner's ink inscription to the title page, 'Edgar Fletcher'.

Condition

In a green half calf binding over marbled boards. Externally, smart. Lightly rubbed to the boards, with some very light wear to the joints. Internally, firmly bound. Aside from some foxing to the front and the rear, pages are bright and clean.
