In a half calf binding with marbled paper to the boards. Externally, generally smart. Light cracks to the joints, resulting in the tail of the spine to the rear joint of Volume II lifting a little. Rubbing and marks to the boards and spines. Minor bumping to the head and tail of the spines and to the extremities, with a small amount of loss to the head and tail of the spines. Front hinges are starting but firm, rear hinge of Volume II is starting but firm. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are lightly age-toned and generally clean with some spots. Prior owner's ink inscriptions to the title pages. Very small chip to page 1/2 of Volume I, affecting two words of text.
