Comprising John Laing's account of his experiences as a surgeon aboard the HMS Resolution in 1806, engaged in the North Sea whale-fishery. The whaling was led by Captain Scoresby. In this volume, he describes his experiences at sea, of the Arctic zoology of Spitzbergen, and the Shetland Isles.
With an Appendix containing historical sketches of the Dutch, English, and American whale fisheries, and some important information on the variation of the compass and some extracts from Scoresby's paper on 'Polar Ice.'
A scarce edition.
Condition
Rebound in quarter cloth and paper covered boards with new endpapers. Externally lovely. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are generally bright and clean with the odd spot to the occasional leaf.
