Description

First Edition, Leather Binding

A subset of Scott's Waverley novels, present here are the first two series of Scott's series of novels 'Tales of My Landlord', consisting of three novels across eight volumes.

With the first edition of the first series: the first state, with the grammatical error on page 234, volume I ('was heard [...] were perceived') uncorrected.

The first series contains two novels, 'The Black Dwarf', set in the Scottish borders in the year 1707, and 'The Tale of Old Mortality', set in the south of Scotland between 1679 and 1689.

And the first edition, first issue of the second series: with the misspelling 'Wichtcraft' to volume II, page 52, and with page 348 of volume IV miss numbered as 438.

The second series consists of the novel 'The Heart of Midlothian'. Set between 1736 and 1736, the plot of the work is set into motion by the Porteous Riots in Edinburgh, and involves a working class Edinburgh girl's travels to London, to obtain a royal commutation of the death penalty incurred by her sister.

With all eight volumes retaining their original half title.

Condition

In quarter morocco bindings, with cloth covered boards. Externally, fine, with the exception of two marks to the front board of volume II of the first series. Internally, firmly bound. Pages bright and generally clean, with the odd spot throughout.
