'Doctor Syntax' is a comic character, a satire of William Gilpin. He published three satirical poems in this series, showing Syntax touring Britain, in order to describe his theory of the Picturesque.

A brilliantly entertaining Georgian poem which was originally serialized in 'The Poetical Magazine'. Combe satrisies William Gilpin, who, like Syntax, toured Britain to find the picturesque.
