What Our Customers Say...
Description
First Edition, Illustrated, Leather Binding, Scarce
The first edition of this scarce early nineteenth century work of natural history, illustrated throughout by British wood-engraver and painter Luke Clennell, who acted as Thomas Bewick's assistant for his important work, 'A History of British Birds'.
Illustrated with twenty-four engraved plates, including a frontispiece, and numerous vignette illustrations. Collated, complete.
A charming and scarce study of four-footed mammals, discussing the 'nature, habits, and dispositions' - along with 'original anecdotes' - of such native English creatures as the ox, rat, sheep, deer, horse, stoat and stag.
With the contemporary inscription of William Lucas to the front endpaper, and retaining to binder's instructions to the final leaf.
A wonderfully illustrated study of the animal kingdom.
