What Our Customers Say...

Description

Leather Binding

Rogers achieved some prominence with the publication of The Pleasures of Memory - a discursive poem - in 1792. He is also remembered as a witty conversationalist and a key figure of Georgian London society. The Encyclopedia Britannica explains: "The amusing, though often unkind, conversations held at his breakfast and dinner parties were recorded by Alexander Dyce and published as Recollections of the Table Talk of Samuel Rogers." His poetry was admired in his lifetime, and upon the death of Wordsworth he was offered, but declined, the position of Poet Laureate.
