Cary's Traveller's Companion was a compilation of maps illustrating the turnpike roads of England and Wales, showing the routes available to the market and borough towns in the United Kingdom in the nineteenth century.
Published by John Cary in a number of revised editions.
Illustrated with forty-two hand coloured maps, presenting different counties. Lacking the large folding map of Yorkshire. All other maps present.
With one sheet of original advertisement to the front of the work.
Condition
Bound in half calf with marbled boards. Externally, slightly worn, with front board detached and rear board detached along with the two end pages. Boards and spine are heavily rubbed, with loss to the extremities. Internally, generally firmly bound. Lacking front endpaper with title page detached, with chipping and loss to the title page, including a little to the title text. Small tear to the advertisement page, not affecting text. Pages are generally bright and clean, with the odd handling mark.
