This work by pioneering surgeon Philibert Joseph Roux discusses recent developments in surgery. Roux trained first as a military surgeon, before eventually becoming chief surgeon at Hotel-Dieu de Paris. He is remembered for his pioneering work in the plastic surgery field and performed one of the earliest cleft palate repairs.

Condition
In quarter calf bindings, with marbled paper boards. A touch of rubbing to back strip head and tails and joints, with further rubbing to centres of boards. Bookseller's label to volume I front pastedown. Internally, firmly bound. Losses to fore edges of first eleven leaves of volume I, part I, with most significant losses to half title and title page. Tide marks to first eighty leaves of volume I part II. Further instances of light spotting and tide marks to each volume.
