This work by pioneering surgeon Philibert Joseph Roux discusses recent developments in surgery. Roux trained first as a military surgeon, before eventually becoming chief surgeon at Hotel-Dieu de Paris. He is remembered for his pioneering work in the plastic surgery field and performed one of the earliest cleft palate repairs.

Tide marks to first eighty leaves of volume I part II. Further instances of light spotting and tide marks to each volume.
