Authored by the Baronet, Sir Thomas Bernard, a founding member of the 'Society for Bettering the Condition and Increasing the Comforts of the Poor', a school for the blind, and a fever institution. Active also in promoting vaccination, improving the conditions of child labour and advocating rural allotments, this small work investigates the benefits of donating excess mackerel caught in the British Channel to labourers living in poverty. He presents the benefits of improving the diet and nutrition of this section of society.
