Illustrated, Leather Binding, Scarce
A scarce work in a half calf binding, with the binder's label of Carss & Co. to the front paste down. Engravings pasted onto the verso of the first blank page, title page, the verso of the title page and pages 246 and 275. Ink inscription to the front paste down and front free end paper. A collection of poetry from ancient Italian poets, from the series Parnaso Italiano edited by Andrea Rubbi (1738-1817). Rubbi was an Italian scholar who compiled many poetry collections. To the rear of the volume, he included brief biographical notes on each poet included in the volume. Poets included, among others, are Dante Alighieri (1265-1321), Lorenzo de' Medici (1449-1492), and Angelo Poliziano or Angelo Ambrogini (1454-1494).
Condition
In a half calf binding. Externally fairly smart, with shelf wear to the boards and a little rubbing to the joints and extremities. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are mostly bright, with the odd spot throughout, more so to the first and last couple of pages.
