Description

Early Edition

In the original paper wraps. Written by James T Fisher, a surgeon based in England. This work explores Asthma, consumption and other lung problems. Fisher proposes the use of Datura Stramonium to resolve asthmatic problems. He writes this work as 'formerly an asthmatic invalid'. Datura Stramonium is also known as devil's snare. It is a plant in the nightshade family and produces hallucinogenic properties. It was used in medicine traditionally worldwide as an anaesthetic and analgesic. In Europe, John Herad refers to the plant in his 'Herball' as being a cure for inflammations. Henry Hyde Salter is another doctor who discusses this plant as a treatment for asthma in his 19th century work 'On Asthma: its pathology and treatment'. A very scarce medical work from the early nineteenth century.
