The first work present is Roman Catholic Bishop John Milner's study of the history of ecclesiastical architecture in England in the Middle Ages, with an emphasis on Gothic architecture and the pointed arch.

The second work is the scarce first edition of Rev. John Haggitt's 'Two Letters to a Fellow of the Society of Antiquaries on the Subject of Gothic Architecture', refuting aspects of Milner's earlier work, and featuring an 'inquiry into the eastern origin of the Gothic, or Pointed Style'.

Illustrated with five engraved plates. Collated, complete.

A delightfully illustrated work offering informative insight into the early eighteenth century attitude to Gothic architecture.
