What Our Customers Say...

Description

Early Edition, Illustrated, Leather Binding, Rebound, Signed

A delightful travelogue detailing the adventures and exploits of Lieutenant John Harriott in Europe, Asia, Africa, and America throughout the late eighteenth-century.

This work provided a very detailed account of these places, and America in particular. John Harriott was a seaman and inventor, and for some time ran farms in New York and Rhode Island. Harriott was also the inventor of the modern fire escape, an invention which is detailed in the post-script to Volume II and on the illustrated plate in Volume I.

Complete in two volumes.

Illustrated with an engraved frontispiece and folding plate to Volume I, collated and complete.

Signed by the author to the verso of the frontispiece, dated June 1808.

Condition

In full contemporary calf binding. Externally, generally smart, with some light shelf wear and rubbing to the heads and tails of the spines, joints, and extremities. Signed by the author to the verso of the frontispiece in Volume I. Internally, binding is generally firm, though the frontispiece is lifting. Some light spotting to the first and last few pages of each volume, as well as to the folding plate in Volume I, otherwise pages are generally clean.
