Bookplate of one H T H Taylor to the front pastedowns. Written by William Barker Daniel, a cleric and expert on field sports. This work was an instant hit with the sportsmen at the turn of the nineteenth century. It is a compilation of other sporting works, alongside original writing. There are chapters on shooting, coursing, hunting, animal care and many more. With twenty-two plates to volume I, twenty-two plates to volume II, thirty-two plates to volume III, five plates, and engraved title page to volume IV. Collated, complete. With volumes I-III being reprinted editions from 1807 and volume IV the first edition of 1813. An important seminal work from William Barker Daniel. A lovely, smartly bound set.
Condition
In a half morocco binding, with cloth covered boards. Externally, generally smart with light rubbing to the joints and extremities. Minor rubbing to the raised bands. Score marks to the front board of the supplement volume. Bookplate to the front pastedowns of all volumes. Internally, all volumes are firmly bound. Pages are generally bright. Tidemark to the bottom outer corner of the supplement volume. Tape repair to the directions for the binder to the supplement volume. Spotting to the first and last few pages, otherwise, just the occasional scattered spots to pages and plates.
