Description
First Edition, Illustrated, Leather Binding
Written by Thomas Thornton (c1751-1823), an English sportsman. Thornton was known for his meticulousness as a huntsman and falconer. he was an advocate of hunting using volley guns. He also published 'A Sporting Tour through the Northern Parts of England and Great Part of the Highlands of Scotland', which was noticed by Walter Scott in the Edinburgh Review of 1805.
Thornton had visited France ahead of the French Revolution, and later revisited it during the Peace of Amiens in 1802. He was introduced to Napoleon Bonaparte, and presented him with a pair of Durs Egg pistols. He had aimed to purchase a French estate, but the Napoleonic Wars hindered his plans.
