A selection of the works of Edward Dayes, published the year after his death. Dayes was a notable watercolour painter and mezzotint engraver in the eighteenth century.
Much of Dayes' topographical works depict ruins painted in blues and greens, which had an influence on the early work of J. M. W. Turner.
Including 'An Excursion Through Derbyshire and Yorkshire', 'Essays on Paintings', 'Instructions For Drawing and Colouring Landscapes', and 'Professional Sketches of Modern Artists'.
Condition
In a half calf binding with cloth to the boards. Externally, generally smart. Some rubbing and marks to the boards in spine, including faint ringmarks to the front board. Minor bumping to the spine and extremities, with a little loss to the head of the spine. Bookseller's label to the front paste down. Prior owner's ink inscription to the recto to the front endpaper. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are lightly age-toned and generally clean with some spots.
