Originally published in 1707, this acclaimed French comic novel by Alain-René Lesage tells the story of demon king Asmodeus, Don Cleophas Leandro Perez Zambullo, and his beloved, Donna Thomasa, set in Madrid. Well received, it was published and ran through several editions. 

In the original French. Illustrated with a frontispiece.

Lesage was a prolific French satirical dramatist and author.

Condition

In a full tree calf binding with gilt to spine. Externally very smart with minor shelf wear, minor rubbing to spined and boards, a touch of sunning to spine. Pencil ownership inscription to front blank page, dated 1989. Internally, firmly bound. Few spots to the odd leaf, otherwise pages are generally bright and clean. Illustrated with a frontispiece.
