What Our Customers Say...

Description

First Edition, Leather Binding, Local Imprint

Bound in half calf with gilt lettering. Rebound with new endpapers. The first Glasgow edition. Some slight damage to the spine of volume one as pictured which is readily repairable. Contains a biography of the author in volume one. Adam Smith (1723-1790) was a moral philosopher and political economist. An Inquiry into the Nature and Causes of the Wealth of Nations is the magnum opus of Adam Smith and was first published in 1776. It is an account of economics at the dawn of the Industrial Revolution, as well as a rhetorical piece written for the generally educated individual of the 18th century - advocating a free market economy as more productive and more beneficial to society. “The Wealth of Nations had no rival in scope or depth when published and is still one of the few works in its field to have achieved classic status, meaning simply that it has sustained yet survived repeated reading, critical and adulatory, long after the circumstances which prompted it have become the object of historical enquiry.” - DNB

Condition

The bindings are tight and firm. The hinges are cracked. There is mild wear to the extremities, including bumping and some loss. Internally the pages are bright and clean with the very occasional scattered foxing only.
