1804 Warning to the World: Joanna Southcott's Prophecies
What Our Customers Say...
Description
Very Scarce
A very scarce work from Joanna Southcott, a self-described prophetess from Devon.
Southcott announced herself as a 'Woman of the Apocalypse', as referenced in the book of Revelation. At the age of 64, Southcott claimed she was pregnant with the new Messiah, with her supporters numbering about 100,000 by 1814.
Upon her death Soutchott left a sealed wooden box of prophecies known as 'Joanna Southcott's Box' with the instruction to only be opened at a time of national crisis. Attempts were made to persuade the episcopate to open the box during the Crimean War and World War I. To this day the box has not been opened, and there are claims that it is in the possession of either the Panacea Society in Bedford, or the British Museum.
In this work Southcott recounts words relayed to her by the Lord, both in prose and verse. She offers cryptic prophecies about the future of mankind.
Printed by S. Rousseau, and sold by E.J. Field, April 25, 1804.
