What Our Customers Say...
Description
First Edition, Leather Binding, Scarce
The scarce first edition of this early nineteenth century work from Charles Maclean, M. D., an English physician and political writer.
Maclean's fascinating narrative relays his return to Europe after a time working for the East India Company.
Travelling through France to advocate for the establishment of an international institution for the study and treatment of the plague, he was detained as a prisoner of war under Napoleon's orders, and made to prove that he had not recently entered England.
Maclean details 'the unprecedented detention of the English travellers' in France, and his eventual release on the 13th December 1803.
