This two volume dictionary is a comprehensive guide to all things relating to ancient mythology, detailing all manner of figures, places, events and words. Although there is naturally a particular focus on ancient Greek and Roman myth, other such mythology such as Norse, Hebrew and Moorish also feature.

This copy is a first edition, in a half calf binding with gilded spines.

Both volumes end with a number of full plate illustrations, the first volume containing ten, the second eight.
