Description

Folding Plates, Local Imprint, Rebound, Very Scarce

Attractively bound in red cloth with a spine label.

Containing two excerpts from Archaeologia, Or Miscellaneous Tracts Relating to Antiquity, Volume 14, published in 1803.

The first excerpt is 'An Account of Antiquities Found in Somersetshire, by Charles Joseph Harford, Esq. F.A.S. in a Letter to the Reverend John Brand, Secretary', dated April 30, 1801. This excerpt includes a lengthy description of the antiquities that had been discovered in Somersetshire in 1800. Including eight folding plates, as originally called for.

The next excerpt is 'An Account of Moulds for Casting Roman Coins Found at and Near Edington, in the County of Somerset, by the Reverend J. Poole, in a Letter to Charles Joseph Harford, Esq. F.A.S.', dated May 14, 1801. Included is a description of how and when they were found, as well as some bibliographic background to the circulating knowledge of Roman Coin casting in Great Britain at this time.

A very scarce work.
