Description

First Edition, Original Binding, Very Scarce

A French language translation of this work from William Marshall, a prominent English agriculture writer known to be an early proponent of the establishment of a state-sponsored body to promote farming standards and agriculture.

The very scarce first French language edition of this work, gathering together much of Marshall's writing, on topics including the cultivation of grains, vegetables, rape, flax and tobacco, the care of horses, and the administration of lands, tenants and laborers.

Marshall believed that no less than twelve months' personal observation and practical experience of farming in any given area was needed before a realistic assessment could be made. He conducted such experiments across England, with his experiences in Norfolk, the Cotswolds, Wiltshire, York, Hereford and Gloucestershire discussed in these volumes.

With a half title to each volume.

A further atlas volume, rarely seen, illustrated with twelve plates and ten printed tables, was published alongside these text volumes. That atlas volume is not present here.

With the stamp of the Rothamsted Experimental Station to each front pastedown. The Station is one of the oldest agricultural research institutions in the world, having been founded in 1843.

A richly detailed turn of the century study of agriculture and farming.
