Leather Binding

Bossuet's 'Funeral Oraisons' are religious texts by Bossuet; out of twelve original texts, two are lost. The orations remaining are to Henriette of France, Madame Yolande de Monterby, Nicholas Cornet, Father Bourgoing, Henri de Gornay, Henrietta of England, Anne de Gonzaga of Cleves and the Grande Conde.

Jacques-Benigne Bossuet (1627-1704) was a French preacher, writer and clergyman, described by Cardinal Grente as 'perhaps the greatest orator that the world has known'. He is best known for these works.

Complete in two volumes.

Condition

In a full calf binding. Externally rather worn, with Loss to the leather of the tails of each volume, with chipping to the head of each spine and loss to the spine label of volume II. Extremities are somewhat bumped. Ownership inscription to the front pastedown of each volume. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are bright and clean, with the odd spot more noticeable to the earlier and later leaves.
