Illustrated with a frontispiece, a cloth-backed folding map, and twenty-seven plates.

Half-title is present.

Sonnini's detailed travel work on Egypt as it was towards the end eighteenth century, detailing the author's expedition to Egypt in the 1770s.

An interesting study on the natural history of Egypt.

Written by Charles-Nicolas-Sigisbert Sonnini de Manoncourt. Sonnini was a French naturalist, writing one-hundred and seventy-two volumes of 'Histoire Naturelle' over his career.

Translated from French to English by Henry Hunter, a Scottish minister known for his translations of Leonard Euler and Johann Kaspar Lavater.

In the armorial binding of Sir William O'Malley, with the O'Malley crest family bookplate to the front paste down.

Condition

In a full marbled calf binding, rebacked with the original boards and spine restored. Light rubbing to the original calf, with a patch of loss to the rear board. Minor surface cracks to the spine. Light bumping to the extremities. Very small chip and closed tear to the spine label. Bookplate to the front paste down. Blind stamp to the rear endpaper. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are lightly age-toned with some scattered spots, including to the endpapers. Tidemark to the frontispiece and to the plates. Fainter tide mark and light spots to the cloth-backed folding map.
