The first edition of this work.
Volume II only of a two volume set. However it is rare to find both volumes together and the second volume is even rarer than the first.
A selection of the miscellaneous works of Hugh Boyd, this volume containing six of his works, including Boyd's preface to the 'Embassy to Candy', and his other political works.
Bound without pages 289 - 495, being the final work in the volume 'Indian Observer'. Other copies seen are likewise bound.
Hugh Boyd was an Irish essayist who prolifically wrote on English Literature and Law.
The editor, Lawrence Dundas Campbell, had written books on politics and current affairs at the time.
Previous owner's ink inscription to the front paste down, 'From H White to L Penny Reevis (?)'
Condition
In a half calf binding with marbled paper to the boards. Externally, with rubbing to the boards and spine. Rubbing to the extremities, resulting in a little lifting of the paper. Spine and joints are faded. Small crack to the head and tail of the front joint. Previous owner's ink inscription to the front paste down. Front endpaper is detaching to the head. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are lightly age-toned, and generally clean with some spots. The occasional pencil and ink annotation throughout the text. Bound without pages 289 - 495.
