First thus, the first collected edition of these works. Three volumes in four. Complete. This interesting set of work draws together the critical and miscellaneous writings of John Dryden, featuring extracts from his letter and correspondence, and additional biographical works by Edmond Malone. John Dryden is perhaps best known for his poetical works, and for appointment as the first Poet Laureate for England. With additional material by Edmond Malone, the noted Shakespearean scholar. Loosely inserted is a small slip of paper, declaring this work is was part of the Professor A D Hope Library. Professor A D Hope was a incredibly popular Australian poet and essayist, who often write in a satirical tone. The poet died in July of 2000, with this paperwork dating from November 2001. Held in a small zip-lock plastic bag, again loosely inserted into the volume are remnants of the spine labels. An interesting volume exploring the life and work of this important English poet and author, and taken from the library of a notable Australian poet.
Condition
In a uniform calf binding. Externally, generally smart. Rubbing to the spine, joints and extremities. Loss to the spine label of each volume, with only part of the spine label of volume III remaining. Two remnant of spine labels have been preserved in a small ziplock bag and loosely inserted into the volume. light mark to the front and rear boards of each volume. Offsetting to the extremities of the front and rear pastedowns and endpapers of each volume. Rubbing to the front pastedown of volume IV. Withe the signature of A. D. Hope to the front endpaper of each volume. Stamp to the front pastedown of each volume, to the head. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are generally clean with spotting throughout. 'A. D. Hope Collection' slip loosely inserted into volume I.
