Originally published in nine parts between 1742 and 1745, the poem is in blank verse and was written during the author's grieving his wife and friends. It was later illustrated by William Blake, and highly praised by James Boswell in his acclaimed 'Life of Johnson'.

Written by Edward Young (1683-1765). This was his most noteworthy work, and was one of the most popular poems of the century.

Complete in two volumes.

Each volume has an engraved half title page; volume I also has a frontispiece portrait of the author.

A delightful two volume copy of this acclaimed work.

Condition

In a full tree calf binding. Externally very smart, with just a little minor wear and bumping to the extremities. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are generally bright and clean, with a little spotting to the first and last leaves.
