What Our Customers Say...
Description
First Edition, Folding Plates, Illustrated, Leather Binding, Very Scarce
In the original French.
The very scarce first edition of the complete scientific works of Bertrand Pelletier, an eighteenth century French pharmacist and scientist, including his most famous works relate to phosphorus, strontian and molybdenum. These works were published the year after Pelletier's death by his brother, Charles.
Collated, with a portrait frontispiece and three folding illustrated plates to volume I, and two folding plates to volume II.
To each pastedown is the armorial bookplate of 'T. R. Robinson', likely the bookplate of nineteenth century Irish astronomer and physicist Thomas Romney Robinson. He was the long time director of the Armagh Astronomical Observatory, one of the chief astronomical observatories in the UK of its time.
A blind stamp to the title page of the second volume reveals that these works were at one point held in the library of Queens College, Belfast.
Condition
In a half calf binding with paper covered boards. Bumping to extremities, with significant rubbing to boards. Bookplate to front pastedowns. Blind stamp to title pages. Internally, firmly bound. Pages generally clean and bright.
