A set complete in ten volumes, exploring the ancient history of Egypt, Carthage, Assyria, Babylonia, Medes and Persia, Macedonia, and Greece. The ninth edition in uniform full calf bindings. By Charles Rollin, French historian and educator. This once famous historical study is uncritical and somewhat inaccurate, nonetheless important as it interested and instructed various generations.

Illustrated with twenty-one full page copper plates, of which seven are folding. Each edition saw different collations. 

With an extensive index and appendix.

From the library of Sir Edward Henry Scott, 5th Baronet of Lytchett Minster, each volume bearing his bookplate to the front pastedown.

Condition

In uniform full calf bindings. Externally rather worn with some shelf wear and rubbing to the leather, some scuffing throughout. With some losses to the head and tail of the spine to each volume. Some cracking to the joints, and straining to the hinges. With Sir Edward Henry Scott's bookplate to the front pastedown of each volume. Internally, the hinges are strained to the boards, vol. II and X only attached with two cords, the binding holding firm. With a minor spotting scattered throughout, more prominent to the endpapers and occasional leaf, and only a faint touch of age toing, as common. With a slight cockling to the leaves of vol. III due to minor damp damage. The lower margin of a folding map to vol. IV is detached but present. Illustrated with twenty-one full page copper plates, of which seven are folding.
