From the Cooke's edition of select British novels with the two engraved leaves regarding the Cooke's edition which are dated 1792. With four further engraved plates to volume I, three engraved plates to volume II, I plate to volume III and I plate to volume IV.
Complete in four volumes.
This novel, often known as 'Tom Jones' is a comic novel, regarded as both a Bildungsroman and a picaresque novel. It is one of the earliest works to be regarded as a novel and is often cited as one of the works that influenced the rise of the novel as a genre.

Condition
In uniform full tree calf bindings. Externally, excellent with minor shelfwear to the extremities. Small split to the head of front joint to volume III. Former owner's stamp to the title pages, 'Stickland'. Internally, Pages 77-80, 101-104 to volume I are detached but present. Plate to volume III is detached but present. Otherwise, all volumes are generally firmly bound. Pages are bright with just the occasional light spots to pages.
