1789 English Housewifery, Exemplified in Above Four Hundred and Fifty Receipts
What Our Customers Say...
Description
Early Edition, Leather Binding, Uncommon
An early edition, being the thirteenth edition. Separate pagination and title page for the second part (English Housewifery Improved, or a Supplement to Moxon’s Cookery Fifth Edition); though the register is continuous. Illustrated, with a folding plate to the start and four plates regarding dinner settings to the rear. The final plate to the rear is laid down, and is lacking half as it was once a folding plate. The plates are diagrams of how to set a variety of dishes on the table. This work was first issued in Leeds in 1741 and was so popular that a second edition was published in 1743. It was marketed in London and Yorkshire and is believed to be one of the earliest cookery books with provincial origins to hold popularity in the capital. An important cookery work, which gives insight into recipes for soups, cakes, pastes, pickles, creams, jellies, made wines and much more. The work is presented with month-by-month plans for lunch, supper and more.
Remarkably good condition.
