First edition of A Political Survey of the Present State of Europe in Sixteen Tables by Eberhard August Wilhelm von Zimmermann.
A scarce work and edition, in full calf binding in very good condition.
Zimmermann was an eighteenth and early nineteenth century German geographer and zoologist. He travelled widely through Europe during his career and conducted research on the economic conditions and natural resources of various countries including Italy, Sweden, France, and more.
This work includes observations on the wealth and commerce, government, finances, military state, and religion of several European countries.
Prior owner's book plate to the first pastedown. From the library of John B. Yates, or John Barantse Yates (1784-1836), early nineteenth century American politician and U.S. Representative from New York.
Cutting taken to remove an ink inscription to page i and ii.
Condition
In full calf binding. Externally, smart. There is some rubbing to the extremities and to the head and tail of the spine. The joints are cracked. The hinges are starting but firm. Prior owner's book plate to the first pastedown. Internally, firmly bound. The pages are bright and generally clean with some light spotting throughout and light age toning. Cutting taken to remove an ink inscription to page i and ii.
