A collection of the poems of John Milton, the noted English poet and civil servant during the Commonwealth of English.
This edition contains Milton's original poems, as well as his noted translations. Contents include 'At a Solemn Music', 'Epitaph on Shakespeare', 'Lycidas', 'Horace to Pyrrha', 'Naturam non Pati Senium', and more.
Milton is best known for his 1667 blank verse epic poem 'Paradise Lost', a poem which is generally considered to be one of the greatest works of literature ever.
Warton was a literary historian, and Poet Laureate.
Bookplate of Richard Luckett to the front paste down. Ink notes to the front paste down, verso of the front endpaper, and to a rear blank.
Condition
In a full calf binding, rebacked with the original boards restored. Externally, rubbed, mostly to the boards. Some marks to the boards, a little heavier to the rear board. Minor bumping to the extremities. Bookplate to the front paste down. Ink notes to the front paste down, verso of the front endpaper, and to a rear blank. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are very lightly age-toned with some scattered spots, mostly to the first and last few pages. The occasional ink note to the text.
